Should I write more about myself? I thought readers might get to know me just by what is revealed in what I write. I guess I see the blog more as a forum to freely spout my opinions. I appreciate the comment. (Hey, someone is reading!!!!!) . I am an amateur vocalist with a voracious appetite for learning. I am currently studying with Ustad Aslam Hussain Khan who is a fantastic teacher. It is hard for me to fathom how, with his talent and interest in teaching, superb vocal technique, and treasure of compositions he does not have students pounding at the door. I am very lucky, after other wonderful gurus too- Babanrao Haldankar, Sharad Sathe, Sudhindra Bhaumick, and Batuk Deewanji. It has taken me a long time to get where I am. I grew up in a foreign culture and started from 0. It took me years just to appreciate the simplest beautiful film song! Like many foreigners I started out with instrumental, flute, then sarengi. The natural progression leads to vocal, if one CAN sing. I still keep the sarengi packed away for the day my voice might fail for some reason, but at a certain point it seemed like a pointless struggle with a difficult technique that at the end of the day was just a reflection of vocal music without the lyrics and full benefit of the compositions. Thanks again for your comment and now I will have a look at your blog.
