Went to Judy’s cottage on Lake Michigan about a 2 hour drive from Madison. Lake Michigan is really like an inland sea with beautiful cold water, 
long sandy beach, and sometimes very big waves. The nearest town is Oostburg and the nearest city is Sheboygan where we went for a Friday night fish fry, which is perhaps a Wisconsin thing {or maybe not}. This was fun! 
The way people casually talk to us, the waitress, and total strangers at neighboring tables is for me anyway, surprising and very fun. I just couldn’t imagine it in France or India.
