It was my first rainy day. A couple of extended stops waiting out the rain were interesting- more than the usual 5 minute chat. I did get very cold for a change and of course quite dirty from road spray. I passed by Akhbar’s magnificent fort on the Indus at Attock and soon was looking for a place to stay. I asked around in Jehangira and was directed to a hotel. This was a very rare occasion that was just not possible for me- a real dump with bathroom downstairs. Onward another 20-25 kms. to a bigger town Nowshera where I found a hotel. Very reluctant to allow foreigner but it turned out to be perfectly adequate and very friendly. No question of Wi-Fi or hot water, price of course very cheap and the food in a restaurant nearby was the best I have had.
This was the first time I had to deal with a squat toilet and it is difficult for me because of old age. The restaurant roo only had the elevated platform seating involving crossed legs which I really can’t manage. I love the setup and conviviality of it though. This huge restaurant was really quite beautiful and the Kabuli pulao as delicious and authentic as it gets.
Such a shame to have a police escort. Cycling with a cop bike up your arse must have been a real pain.
